Juniors
The Hertford Chess Club exists to encourage chess for all ages and standards. In order to secure the future for our club, we are particularly keen to attract, and provide coaching to younger members. This year we will be continuing to run sessions on certain Tuesday nights which are specifically aimed at young chess players (7 to 16).
Juniors Infomation:
Location: Upstairs at the Hertford Club, which is in Lombard House at the end of Bull Plain in the centre of Hertford.
Season: September through to May each year.
Cost: 50p
Times: Sessions start at 6:30pm and finish promptly at 7:45pm. Parents collecting younger children should aim to arrive by about 7:40pm in case they have finished a game and are waiting.
Aims of the Sessions:
Ensure each junior:
- Knows the rules of chess.
- Can record their moves.
- Understands some basic principles and strategies.
- Finds out about chess in Hertfordshire.
- Can use a chess clock.
- Avoids making silly mistakes.
- Can beat their dad!
- Enters the UK Chess Challenge.
If you have only just mastered the basic moves, or you want some different competition, or meet some new friends with the same interests, then we've got something for you. How to start? Come along to one of the Tuesday dates above and see what's going on. You can turn up to any or all of the sessions as you like. If you know of anyone else who would be interested in attending our sessions then please pass a copy of this webpage onto them. If you are already an experienced younger player, then come along and find out what the club has to offer you!
